Any tips on moving the alternator to drive shaft for charging?

It is my husband's idea. He likes to think of different things he can do! The truck already has an amazing amount of power, I keep telling him to leave it alone! It will be almost impossible to accomplish what you are wanting to do (not saying it can't be done) but the benefits of it would be so marginal that it simply would not be justified… you would not even be able to tell the difference in power.. go by your local
parts store and ask one of the guys about some more ponies for you truck and I bet you will be suprised at all the good info you can get..

And as the driveshaft moves up and down with the suspension, how will you keep the belt tension?

what if your idling in park or neuteral?think about how the charging system works before coming up with weird ideas.

The only way (not by drive shaft) to eliminate the alternator when horsepower is needed, is to put a switch on the output of the alt. When you want to go, turn the switch off. To drive normally and to charge the battery, turn it back on.

your idea's not going to save you any power at all. your alternator still requires the same amount of mechanical energy. where you put it on the drivetrain makes no difference in terms of efficiency
just get a better alternator and an electric fan. then make sure all your other stuff is in good order so there's no drain on the battery. you'll hardly notice the alternator's there

For the horsepower gained verses the relocation time effort and added cost to install it, I wouldn't. Nighttime driving will be interesting in stop and go traffic.
If horsepower is what you're after and if fuel cost isn't a problem, have lots of money why not a V8 swap? Looks like you would go under the hood and play mechanic, right? A small block DZ 302
with a up grade to the driveline? Good luck!
