Looking forward to my Rainbow asked:

I am getting ready to make the transition from crib to toddler bed. What has your experience been and do you have any tips for me? Thanks!

Burn it in front of his eyes. No, seriously, get rid of it. He'll have no other choice than to sleep in it.

there was not a hugh shock for him. You'll be busy putting him back in bed a 100 times. It will get better though, Just tell him he is a big boy now and needs to stay in his bed.

Go out and buy, along with the toddler bed, rail bed protector.
It is made of metal, no sharp edges, almost as long as the bed with bars that go under the mattress … it prevents the child from falling out of bed. During the day, just remove it and store it in the closet.

Yep, you'll be putting him back to bed many many times. :) We transferred my daughter when she turned 2 to a twin bed. My daughter found out she was independent and always and still does get up and plays. Sometimes, I find her sleeping on the floor, which is normal. :) Just be consistent. He'll get the idea soon enough. If you leave his door open at night, put a gate at his door…so he doesn't become a night wanderer. We still keep a monitor in my daughter's room and it's in our room at night. Our first night transferring to the twin didn't go so hot. She was so excited when we set it up, but did not want to sleep in it. She screamed and I just kept bringing her back to bed. It took us 3 hours till she finally went to sleep! lol

BEST bed ever to switch to is a twin size race car bed. It has slitghlty raised sides all around so he can't fall out and yet especially on the hood it's still easy to get into. PLus it's fun to lay beside him and read a book. It's like a giant crib he won't outgrow until he he's a teen. My nephew is 10 and he even loves my sons bed.He has had it for 2 years and he still loves it just as much.

talk to your child and tell them that "big kids" have big beds make sure though you still have the railing to eliminate the fall and let them pick out there bedding or if they like a certain character make that their theme. good luck

my son did great moving into his big boy bed. be prepared to put him back in it a few times after he realizes his new found freedom. i just explained that he was getting bigger and needed a big boy bed. I also used the same bedding on the toddler bed that i had used in the crib for a while to ease the transition with a few new and exciting pieces of thomas the tank engine bedding but use what works for your little man. just be patient we also got a few books from the library about a week before one of them was called bye bye crib but i don't remember the other titles. good luck

if your crib is modular-type and you can remove one of the sides (the one that's sliding up and down), do that, then for abour $60 at babies'r'us get a bedrail. install it and you will have a transitioning toddler bed..
if not, i suggest you talk your child into giving it away to another baby (kids are more likely to share things if there's a piece of chocolate involved), and get a new "grown up" bed..
