Tips on moving hand smoothly across fret?

HI,im a newbie guitarist who seems to not be able to move my hands from string to string smoothly without having to pause then find the right string.I mean I see guys make it look so simple but yet when I attempt it,my finger gets so comfortable being on a certain string,it gets hard playing a new one.Also any tips on avoiding hitting the wrong strings when strumming.For example i'll be strumming EAD and accidentally hit G.Any suggestion's?I really want to rock.
